The mitzvah of charity is one of the greatest mitzvahs in the Torah,
and the sages said about it:
שקולה צדקה כנגד כל המצוות" (ב"ב ט, א)"
And the giver of charity adheres to the measure of God
who animates and sustains his creatures.
And since charity adds life to the world, therefore it saves from death,
As it is said: וּצְדָקָה תַּצִּיל מִמָּוֶת" (משלי י, ב)"
